The top two spots at the SEB Tallinn Marathon held in the centre of Tallinn on Sunday 11 September went to Kenyan runners. Julius Muriuki won with a new track record of 2:12:56. This is the fastest anyone has ever run 42.195 kilometres in Estonia.
Muriuki beat his countryman Isaack Kosgei (2:12:56) into second place by just a footstep. Hassane Ahouchar from Morocco (2:13:17) finished third. Kaupo Sasmin became the Estonian champion after finishing 6th overall with a new personal record of 2:28:25.
The winner among women was Almaz Alemu Balcha from Ethiopia with a time of 2:34:14, which gave her 8th place overall. Irene Chepkirui was second with a time of 2:34:41 (11th overall). The third place went to Leila Luik, who also became the Estonian champion with a superb personal record of 2:52:05.
This gave her 33rd place overall.
