Press Release

Be Part Of Scotland’s Largest Running Event

24 Mar, 2013 (Sun)

IF you fancy getting the whole family in shape this spring then sign up for some spectacular races in the heart of Scotland’s capital.

Entries are open now for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 10K and 5K races on Saturday May 25 at Holyrood Park. Runners of all abilities are welcome to take part in the events in the shadow of Arthur Seat. And for sporty kids there are two junior races, a 3K race for 11 to 14-year-olds and a 1.5K race for six to 10 year-olds. More than 500 youngsters from across the country competed in the junior races last May and organisers are expecting even more kids to take part this spring.

Neil Kilgour, Edinburgh Marathon Festival race director, said:“Edinburgh Marathon Festival has it all- a great city that acts as a stunning backdrop to the event’s proceedings and a programme of races that means that everyone is catered for from children to marathon veterans.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming back the thousands of runners who’ve supported the event over the years plus the thousands who will be joining us for the first time. I would like to encourage anyone who has ever thought that they would like to take part to grab the opportunity now and enter a race that challenges them. Nothing beats that feeling of achieving a goal and you can achieve in Edinburgh. Grab the moment and make it happen.”

If you’re keen to help change other people’s lives then run the half or the full Edinburgh marathon on Sunday May 26. More than 200 charities still have places available, including Macmillan Cancer Support, which is the marathon official charity, Alzheimer Scotland, Breast Cancer Care, British Heart Foundation, Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres and Prostate Cancer UK. Every single charity offers runners vital support and training advice in the build up to the big day as well as tips on how to hit your fitness and fundraising goals. Marathon organisers are hoping to break all previous records and raise more than £4.5 million for charity in 2013.

Entries for the 2013 races are coming in thick and fast so please don’t delay your entry. To enter go to the Edinburgh Marathon Festival website on www.edinburgh-marathon.com
