Highlights from Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon

  • 4th edition of the Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon
  • The race is awarded by IAAF Road Race Silver Label
  • The race will be started by Martin Novotný, the Mayor of the City of Olomouc
  • České dráhy Family Run will be started by Jiří Rozbořil, Governor of the Olomouc Region
  • The biggest running event in Moravia
  • Elite start list includes runners from 11 countries. The majority should be African runners, particularly from Kenya and Ethiopia, who would lead the start field. The start list also includes participants from Great Britain, Japan, Morocco, Ukraine, Poland and Romania.
  • The fastest man is Kenyan John Kiprotich (00:59:23) who already knows how to complete a half marathon under one hour. Just one second behind the magical boundary is Henry Kiplagat (1:00:01), already well-know from other RunCzech Running League races.
  • Japan represents a very strong team in Olomouc as well. The number one runner should be Fumihiro Maruyama (1:01:15) among men and Yuka Tokuda (1:10:40) among women.
  • Weldu Negash from Norway, originally from Kenya, can achieve very nice result as well. He mostly shows his strength in marathons (2:12:29), which means that Olomouc will be his speed test for the next marathon race.
  • The main candidate for gold medal in women category is Ethiopian contestant Yebrqual Melese (1:09:02). Her biggest rivals will be Susan Partridge (1:10:31) from Great Britain and already mentioned Yuka Tokuda from the country of the rising sun. Ethiopian runner Betelehm Moges (1:11:51) and Jane Kiptoo (1:09:07) from Kenya also have ambitions for award podium.
  • Czech fans can be looking forward to Petra Kamínková, an Olomouc woman, and Jiří Homoláč from not so far away city of Brno.
  • At the Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon will also start a well-known cardiac surgeon Jan Pirk and a singer from Moravian Theatre Radek Leszczynski.

  • The capacity of 3,500 participants was filled about two months before the race
  • 1,500 runners will take part in České dráhy Family Run

  • 74 participants in 2RUN race
  • 958 (28 %) participants will run the half marathon for the first time
