Julius Kiprono Mutai, Kenya, won the §race_link(1333) in 2:17:54. During the race, he was expected to break the course record set in 1986. At the half marathon mark, Mutai left his competitors behind. But at 30 km, he couldn’t keep the same pace and had to slow down. He still finished alone, 4 minutes ahead of Amare A Abebe (Ethiopia – 2:21:34) and Abdellatif Ait Hsine (Bahrain – 2:24.37).
Ayelu Abebe Hordofa from Ethiopia claimed the women’s title by completing the race in 2:40:02. This is her first victory on the marathon distance. The finished crossed the finish line with a confortable over Rael Kimaiyo Jepyator (Kenya – 2:42.21). Herriet Jepchumba Chebore also from Kenya took the third place in 2:48.00.
This year 12,000 runners had registered for the marathon and 9,619 crossed the finish line. The international participation was huge. Runners from 65 countries met in Copenhagen to take part in the race.
The 36th edition will take place on May 24th 2015.
