Hello, on October 12th 2014, you’ll be organizing the Dirty South Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

The race takes place in West Monroe, a city in Northern Louisiana.

This will be the inaugural race. What motivated you to create the race?

I love the marathon distance & this area. The Northern part of Louisiana has never had a marathon. I loved the idea of being able to bring something to this area that people never thought possible. I love running marathons and now I get to create something most people will never be able to accomplish, I love the challenge!

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

The half marathon is flat out and back through a beautiful historic part of our city, and over the Ouachita River. There are tons of scenic views, according to the course marking team (Boston Qualifying team). The full marathon is flat on the first half; the back half is hilly and quietly challenging. Runners will really see how strong they are by finishing our 26.2 course!

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

We are expecting 2,000 runners. And the types we expect are curious runners ready to run a course that has never been touched by foot. Runners may travel to our race in hopes of seeing a Duck Commander.

Do you organize other races during the Weekend? If so, on what distances?

There is a half marathon, beginning at the same time as the marathon (7:30) and a 5K on Saturday (starting at 8:00).

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

Well it’s Louisiana, it could be anything from 65°F to 85°F. I would expect sunny and in the 70s.

Have you planned festivities around the marathon?

We will have an expo with upwards of 115 booths and guest speakers through the expo. The expo will be open from 10 to 6pm.

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to West Monroe before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

Duck Commander Headquarters, Antique Alley/Downtown West Monroe, Downtown RiverMarket.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Dirty South Marathon?

It’s not every day you are able to be a part of a 1st year event!

Interview with Tara Knight from Dirty South Running. Tara started this running company to bring more fun to running- they organize smaller events like: the Downtown Donut Dash, a Halloween Costume Run, and several other similar events. She runs almost every race in a costume because it not only makes her laugh and have a good time but it brings smiles to other runners faces and that makes it all worth it. They try to see how unique of trophies they can give out at their races, the crazier, the better! Bobble head runner, hand painted sugar skulls, wood carving of the state of Louisiana just to name a few.
