Hello, on November 21st 2009, you’ll be organizing the Rehoboth Beach Running Co. Seashore marathon . Can you tell us where it is located?
Rehoboth Beach, “The Nation’s Summer Capital” is a beautiful small coastal town in Delaware. It is 2 hours away from Washington D.C., Baltimore or Philadelphia.

This will be the second edition of the race. Why was it created in the first place?
We created the race because we have a big running community here. There are lots of shorter races, but there was not a full marathon. We and the local race director decided to start organizing a marathon.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
The route is very scenic. It starts and ends on the boardwalk by the ocean. It winds through Rehoboth. Then it goes on a flat wide trail and heads into a state park in Lewes.
There are a couple of small hills in the state park and one of them has a great view of the water. After that, the course heads back to Rehoboth.
How many runners do you expect on Saturday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
Last year for the inaugural race, 434 runners joined us for the marathon.
Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?
We are having a 1/2 marathon along with the marathon.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
Usually the November weather here is mild (in the 40’s). This year we had abnormally cold weather and the race started in the 20’s.
Have you planned festivities around the marathon?
After the race, we have a great ‘after party’ in a heated tent at Rehoboth Beach Running Company.
The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Rehoboth Beach before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
We are lucky to have a lot of wonderful restaurants in Rehoboth. For great fish in town, we go to Fins. It’s right on Rehoboth Avenue, about 1/2 mile from the start of the race. If you stay in town, you can pretty much walk to everything.
For good beer in town and good food, I would suggest Dogfish Head. They brew there own beer locally and are known around the country. For breakfast, the next day, I love the Retro cafe on Wilmington avenue ( 2 blocks from the start). There are a lot of cute shops in Rehoboth and nearby Lewes.
By running the race, you get to see a lot of scenic areas. One of my favorites is the overlook in Cape Henlopen state park in Lewes.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of 42k195 to make them register for the Rehoboth Beach Running Co. Seashore marathon?
We got so much positive feedback from the race. These are some of the things people said to us.
- The course was mostly flat and beautiful.
- It was well organized with plenty of water and gatorade at every stop.
- There were port-o-potties every couple of miles.
- You can stay in a hotel (the Atlantic Sands) a block from the start of the race.
- The after party was great with plenty of food for everyone and Dogfish beer.
- The race technical tees were a big hit as well as the medals.
