Hello, on February 6th 2016, you’ll be organizing the Sedona Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?
The Sedona Marathon event takes place in the beautiful Red Rock Country of Northern Arizona, Southwestern USA.
How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?
2016 will be the 11th year of the event which was created to offer a high quality winter destination running opportunity in a truly majestic setting.
The event supports local running initiatives for youth and continues to host both endurance distance goal races as well as the family-friendly 10K and 5K runs that include walking the scenic routes.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
The course will take participants through the scenic Coconino National Forest District, known for its magical iron-clad formations, and onto the streets of one of the most beautiful cities in the Country – a city that has most recently been named by Good Morning America as one of the TOP TEN most beautiful places in America. The Marathon includes sections of non-paved forest service road, all routes include elevation gain and amazing views of the Red Rocks.
What are the distances on the agenda?
The event includes a distance for every runner from full marathon, half marathon, 10K to 5K.
How many runners do you expect on Saturday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
The event has grown in popularity and size every year and last year’s registration topped the 3000 mark for the four races.
From the very elite endurance road and trail marathoners to the school run groups in the 5K, the distances, the venue, the community supports the size and needs of the entire gamut of run achievement.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
Sedona is typically stunning in the winter experiencing an average high temperature of 65 degrees (18.3°C) and a low overnight of 35 degrees (1.8°C). There can be a light dusting of snow up on the Red Rocks, but none will last in town, on the roads and trails. Outdoor activities – particularly running -are easily do-able.

Have you planned festivities around the event?
The event hosts a pasta dinner on Friday evening before the event with post-race overall awards presented onsite race day.
Sedona itself is a terrific destination with many activities and attractions in magnificent surroundings ranging from area museums, state parks and national monuments, to local wineries and world-class art galleries.
Entertainment options include art, music and film festivals throughout the year and other world-class performances – from chamber and symphonic music, to theater. The Sedona calendar of events and the Sedona Chamber of Commerce maintain complete listings of all the opportunities.
The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Sedona before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Definitely plan to spend several days at least in the Sedona area. Hiking, Mountain Biking, Pink Jeep tours of the Red Rocks, and sampling the great local restaurants, the wineries, can make a complete visit.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Sedona Marathon?
The Sedona Marathon event is an excellent physical challenge in a most beautiful setting for both race day and for an overall extraordinary winter destination trip.
