Marathon results
Eliud Kipchoge (2:03:05) cut more than a minute and a half from his winning 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon time to defend his title in this year’s event.
More than 39,000 runners completed the course in England.
Earning runner-up honors for the second time in three year was Stanley Biwott with a time of 2:03:51.
He finished fourth a year ago.
Kenenisa Bekele (2:06:36) rounded out the top three.

For the women, it was Jemima Sumgong (2:22:58) shaking off a fall to finish just seconds ahead of Tigist Tufa (2:23:03) for first.
Sumgong took sixth in 2015.
In a tight race for third, Florence Kiplagat (2:23:39) topped Volha Mazuronak (2:23:54) and Aselefech Mergia (2:23:57).
All three finished in the top 10 a year ago.
Kiplagat came in second in 2014.
