Are you looking for new small exotic races ? Here’s one for you.
For the second time, the small island of Montserrat in the British West Indies will host its Volcano Half Marathon.
The route will passe some of the key tourism attractions on Montserrat, particularly the active Soufriere Hills Volcano and show some of the impact it has created.
The course will be very hilly but will reward the runners by providing spectacular views of the sea all along the way.
You may not remember, but the last volcano eruption occurred in 1995-97 and completely destroyed the capital of the island Plymouth. Two-thirds of the population had to leave the island and seek asylum abroad.
So the volcano has a significant importance for the inhabitants of the island. The Soufriere is no ordinary volcano.
All finishes will be offered a Souvenir Medal made out of volcanic material. You’ll be bringing the Soufriere home with you.
The race will take place on November 27 2010 and will support a local charity “Childline Montserrat”
So why leave the cold November automn and head for Montserrat ?
