§staticmap(9809,5,450,250)Hello, on September 4th 2011, you’ll be organizing the Passo dello Stelvio Half Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

This event takes place starting from Bormio in Italy close to the Swiss border.

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

This year is the second race, and it was developed to raise money for the non profit organisation Right to Play from Johann Olav Koss. Running on a special place for a special cause.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

The route starts on the city square in front of the church in Bormio. Form the start it takes the runners up from a bit over 1300 meters altitude, crossing forest, tunnels, moon landscape, 34 hairpins climbing 1533 altitude meters to finish on top of the Passo dello Stelvio on almost 2800 meters.

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

We hope again for about 100 runners form all over Europe and the rest of the world. Every runner who is able to run a half marathon can do this race. Not for the personal best time but to run “a different race”.

Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?

No

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

Last time the weather was fantastic. No wind and nice and sunny. But you never know in the mountains. Weather can change within half an hour.

Have you planned festivities around the half marathon?

There are no special festivities

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Bormio before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

The “best” thing to do is to go to the thermal pools in Bormio city center. A fantastic place to relax after “a hard days work”.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Passo dello Stelvio Half Marathon?

34 hairpins, 1533 meters elevation gain and a finish at an altitude of 2800 meters! A tough job? Yes but somebody has got to do it!
