§staticmap(9853,5,450,250)Hello, on October 15, 2011 you’ll be organizing the Go Commando Half Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

The Go Commando Half Marathon will be held in Clarksville, Tennessee. The race will begin at the new Clarksville Marina & Liberty Park.

Runners will race along the Cumberland River, through historic downtown Clarksville and end back at the Marina for a post race celebration.

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

This is the inaugural event. The race began as a celebration of the return of soldiers to Fort Campbell who have been over in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is a community driven event that promotes health and wellness, while honoring our troops.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

FAST and FLAT. The route is perfect for a beginner, someone who is training for a marathon later in the year, or a runner who is looking to PR! This race is very scenic as well, with views of the Cumberland River, scenic countryside and a historic downtown.

How many runners do you expect on Saturday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

We are estimating over 1,000 runners to participate in this event. We will also have a 5k so we will have all ages and athletic abilities coming out to participate. We welcome runners, walkers, families and serious athletes. The more the merrier!

Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?

We will also have a 5k.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

Tennessee weather is always unpredictable but mid to upper 60s are common in October. Sunny and clear skies too hopefully!

Have you planned festivities around the half marathon?

Yes, we will have a post race party with free food and drinks, entertainment for the whole family as well as children’s activities and demonstrations and giveaways from our sponsors.

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Clarksville before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

Historic downtown Clarksville is great: a museum, lots of local shops and eateries, the RiverWalk is nearby. Or visitors can go to nearby Ft. Campbell and tour the military museum or Beachaven Winery, a local winery with free tours and tastings every day.

There is lots to do and see in our city!

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Go Commando Half Marathon?

We have an unbelievably flat and fast course that will have you flying to the finishline!
