This is a great, very well organised, and old school marathon in Aalborg! The Race Director has been organising this event for 24 years and he is knowledgable about what runners want, as he was a runner himself. The race brief was at 10:45 am; and the start at 11:00 am. The start was so old school, but very well organised. Each runner was given a chip timing watch that they had to scan each lap. The start was in the middle of the woods with a red tape that was cut off by the first runner. Countdown was dead on and off we went. First mile was a steep hill through the woods. We came out on the road which was fairly flat, but then back to the trails and some forest paths and the second steep hill. After this, we met the city roads again which were marshalled perfectly by the volunteers and made sure to signal when to cross. here were check points every 5 kilometres. Each round contained two checkpoints with water, lemonade, fruits, coke, squash, Danish cake and chocolate. The first 3 long stretched hills were on trail underfoot. The other 3 were on tarmac. The weather was cold and rainy, and it was a little bit windy, too. At the end, we were handed a nice Old School medal with the location of the Marathon on it: ie Aalborg. I would highly recommend the Brutal Marathon in Aalborg.
