More than 700 runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors came out to take part in both races at the spring 2009 running of the Avenue of the Vines Half Marathon & 5K, which takes the field of participants along a course through the gently rolling hills of Northern California’s wine country region, nestled in the hills about 50 miles south of Sacramento. Considered well-suited for first-time half-marathon runners, this race’s fast and flat course follows a simple, out-and-back rectangular loop course among the vineyards and mustard seed fields of the Lodi-Stockton, Calif., area.
