Lucca Marathon

We are pleased to inform you that are open the registrations for the third marathon city of Lucca. This year the event will take place on October 23th 2011 and is become an international event. Numerous requests for information from outside national boundaries confirm that Lucca, the famous town of the “walls”, represents great interest to combine sport and cultural activities. As last year, the marathon will end in Piazza San Michele, one of the most beautiful squares of Lucca. Several changes for the third edition. Lucca Marathon Route The race start up the ancient medievals Lucca city walls, after a complete lap will go out from the city through some little towns and villages in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, to come back after about 35 Km to Lucca, traversing his hystorical streets, and finish in Piazza San Michele, one of The most beautiful squares of the city. [/caption] Alfredo Petroni is a 40 years old marathon runner, living in Italy. He had a dearm : Sharing his passion endurance running and for his hometown by organizing a marathon in Lucca. This year, his dream will come true. Alfredo kindly answered my usual questions to present his race. Hello, on October 25th 2009, you’ll be organizing the Lucca Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located? Lucca is located in Tuscany. Pisa is only 30 km away and Florence 70. photo credit: Ipoh ? How old is the race and why was it created in the first place? This is the first edition of Lucca Marathon , we decided to organize a marathon in Lucca for two main reasons : Because we are runners and we run several marathon in Italy and outside; Because we would like to give an opportunity to the marathoners to run a marathon in a very very beautiful town and area. What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? The Marathon will start from the historical center of the town (on the top of the walls). After about 4 Km on top of the walls , there will be 2 Km inside the town. Then the course will get out from the historical center to head to some of the most beautiful villages located around Lucca. The runners will be back to Lucca after around 40 Km ,enter again into the historical center and will pass through the most beautiful ‘il Anfiteatro Place’ , the finish line will be located in the gorgeous Piazza S.Michele. You can find the map of the route on our web site. How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? Considering that it’s the first edition we are quite confident to have at least 500 runners , with you help probably also some more… Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances? We focus ourselves on the marathon, but we will also organize a 5 km noncompetitive race that will be open to everybody and it will be in the historical center of the city. At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? In October normally the weather in Lucca is perfect to run a Marathon (not too warm and not too cold) , the temperature is around 15° C (59 °F). Have you planned festivities around the marathon? Beside the Marathon we have organized an EXPO area (starting two days before the race) where the runners will be able to pick up their race package as well as some touristic information. The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Lucca before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? After the race (or the days before) , I would suggest to people that have never been in Lucca , to visit all the historical center and also to visit the very beautiful hills around Lucca.
