I live in Nuuk and I am training for the marathon right now. I run that loop to the airport at least three times a week. I can tell you that I have been running seriously for almost 10 years, including long distance and intense trail running at high altitude in Colorado, USA as well as poor weather conditions in British Colombia. The weather (especially wind) in Nuuk can be extreme. The cold is not a problem if you are prepared and dress properly, but the wind can be discouraging, sometimes so intense that you will be running quite hard and barely moving. In good weather, there is always a little wind. This is for sure the most challenged I have ever been as a runner. The hills are steep and frequent. However, it is very rewarding. I would recommend trail running (a LOT) as preparation. You can't run this marathon if you can't take intense hills. Go for it though. Nuuk IS very beautiful and worth spending some time in!

Im new to marathon to. Just finished Copenhagen Marathon a week ago. I can't tell you alot about the difeculty in Nuuk Marathon, only that the route is prety borring. You have to run the same route back and forth and even twice. Also Nuuk is not at pretty greenlandic village but got some realy getho-like concrete buildings. The sight thou is pretty amazing and the greenlandic people are very openminded. About the weather, I can tell that Nuuk is the place in Greenland where there is the most rain/snowfall. So if you go you must take a trip along the coast or take a couple of days in some other greenlandic town.

10-20 Celcius and light winds doesn't sound too bad, for running. 750m altitude is significant though. Rain + Wind would also be a challenge. I am considering this for my 2nd marathon - 1st was flat, perfect weather...everything a 1st-timer could ask for. I am wondering, would this be too difficult a jump? Also, how hilly is the course? Thanks, Jason from New York

Hi, very demanding course. 2 loops 21,1 km starting at Nuuk center and goes around airport and the new city Qinngorput. Approx. 750 m of altitude makes this race pretty difficult. Normally the weather is 10-20 degrees celcius in august with light wind conditions. Sometimes weather can 'be tricky', with rain and wind and + 5 degrees celcius. Absolutly a demanding course. Also look for the whales along the seaside!
