Thanks for your interest in the 2017 Water for Amani 5K Run/Walk. We have been overwhelmed by the support and it’s already a blessing for the kids at Amani. In an attempt to make this event even more successful we want the event day to go as smooth as possible so here are some things you need to know.

Parking is free and located in the front lot & field of the Church facility. There will be signage and greeters to guild you.

Bathrooms:
Men’s & lady’s bathrooms are available in the Church building main entrance next to the registration tent and will be open at 6:00am. There is also a public bathroom at the turn around point of the Ma & Pa Heritage trail.

Water/Food:
Water will be available at the start/finish area and on the course. There will be fruit available at the finish. Otherwise please bring what you need.

Course:
A 3.1 mile out and back course starting at the Church at 135 Industry Lane - Forest Hill, Maryland - 21050. The first .5 kilometer of the run is a mowed field leading into the Ma & Pa Heritage trail, turn around at the half way point and return. We will have a bicyclist lead-out and pace the runners and markers will be placed every kilometer along the course. A water stop is located approximately one kilometer in and is accessible from both directions. This is an out and back so there will be two-way traffic so please run/walk to the right and pass accordingly. Areas of caution will be called out with signage, the main areas to note are: the initial 250 meters in which there is some rutting in the field resulting from being mowed while soft. Attempts were made to smooth it out but please be aware, there is a narrowing of the course as it transitions out/in of the field to the pavement, there is curb entering the ma & pa trail entrance, a road crossing at Mardic Drive and crossing guards will be present and controlling traffic for the run only (walkers please stop accordingly and use good judgement)… most importantly please be courteous to pedestrians who may be on the ma & pa trail during the event.

Amani Children's Home was launched 4 years ago on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya by Alfred and Irene Bahati. Beginning with six children, Amani has grown to house and care for over 100 children with food, education and a loving place to live and grow. Some of the children live full time at the home and some come everyday from the surrounding area for food and education.
All the children that call Amani home have been rescued from heartbreaking situations like abuse, neglect, human trafficking, extreme poverty or parents that have died from AIDS/HIV.
Despite having no running water or power, the directors and teachers of Amani have managed to create a loving oasis for children who have been abandoned, tossed aside and otherwise forgotten. Here, at Amani, these children and others that will come in the future are learning and growing in amazing ways.
The Amani Foundation raised funds through this event last year to supply the children of Amani with a deep-well borehole and powered well head pump. Now this deep-well will enable the children of Amani to have unlimited access to pure, clean water for drinking, bathing, cooking, washing clothes and irrigation for self sustaining crops. The water will also be used as a commodity to sell with the proceeds helping to support the Amani Children's Home.

Pre- Register for the event online by May 30th and receive a FREE event t-shirt (run only)!
