My first HK marathon (2009) and only 2nd overall after Singapore.
Weather was fine 18-20 C though the Hong Kongers were complaining it was hot.
Started off from the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui near Mira Hotel and turned left off the first junction towards the highway. Route was very hilly though was gradual inclines. Ok at the start towards the Tsing Ma bridge (towards the airport)and the Ting Kau bridge. On the return leg back towards the city, “what goes down must come up” rule starts getting to you.
At the 34km mark you enter the cross channel tunnel and heading toward the end at Victoria Park, some short steep slopes starts to get to you. Last 3km was flat so good for the final sprint. The best part was the last 2 km as you run throught the narrow streets of Causeway Bay. Sidewalk was lined with spectators cheering on the runners and that gives you an extra boost as you head towrds the finish line at the park itself.
Overall was a difficult run in terms of terrain but weather, support (lots of water, energy drinks, water sponges, babanas and chocolates)was very good.
Would definitely give it another go come next year.
