Description
The course is allowing visiting both sides of the river Daugava, the largest river in Latvia. Course of the marathon and half-marathon cross the river with the help of the Vanšu Bridge thus allowing the participants to enjoy some of the most beautiful spots in Riga – “the silent centre”, the amazing panorama of Pārdaugava and the Old Riga, as well as the paved streets of Ķīpsala island and wooden architecture.

I ran in Riga in 2008 and was very pleasantly surprised by both the city as well as the race itself. Since it is quite small by European standarts (around 2000 participants for marathon and 1/2 marathon + 3500 for 5k), they could ensure very good organisation and service. Moreover, the pasta party (which I had to pay separately around EUR15) was the best I have ever had in a the official marathon hotel offering tryly gourmet food. Also a chance to meet the race’s patroness Jelena Prokopcuka, who is really like a popstar in Latvia. I definitely recommend it.
