Hello, on October 27th 2013, you’ll be organizing the Moncton Legs for Literacy Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

Legs For Literacy starts and finishes in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada.
Races run through 3 communities.

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

This race started in 2000 as a 10 km race with 66 runners…. Any proceeds were donated to local schools for Literacy . To date we have donated over $250.000 to Literacy projects.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

We have an out and back flat route with a combination of street and trails.

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

Last year we had just under 2,700 runners and hope to attract 3,000 this year.
We will have to cap our race at 3,000 this year. Runners range from beginners to elite

Do you organize other races during the Weekend? If so, on what distances?

On the Saturday (day before the race) we organize a youth event at the University track featuring track and field events for the participants.
On race day we have 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon races.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

Weather here in late October can range from just below freezing to balming summer like temps.

Have you planned festivities around the marathon?

We have an expo the day before for runners and a pasta dinner the night before.

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Moncton before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

The Moncton area has many natural attractions as well as numerous multi cultural restaurants. Two national parks are just 45min to 1 hour away.
Moncton is also noted for its easy access to a wide variety of retail shopping
