Hello, on March 9th 2014, you’ll be organizing the Cyprus Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

The international running event is being held in the city of Pafos, Cyprus. Pafos, the ‘European Capital of Culture 2017’, is a fascinating and friendly city and is located in the west coast of Cyprus.

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

The international Cyprus Marathon, Half Marathon & 10 km Road Race is an annual event and it will be held for the 16th consecutive year on Sunday 9th March 2014 in Pafos.

The event was established back in 1999 and it is the older and best Marathon on the island. Most participants are overseas runners and the event promotes the sports tourism in Cyprus.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

The Marathon course will start from Petra tou Romiou (Birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty) and finish at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square. The Half Marathon and 10 km Road Race will start and finish at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square nearby the Pafos fishing harbor. Start time for the Marathon is at 07:30 hrs and for the Half Marathon & 10 km Road Race is at 8:30 hrs.

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

More than 600 runners are expected to participate in the event with most of them coming from European countries to run the oldest and best city marathon in all of Cyprus! Participants are runners belonging to Running Clubs and a vast majority of them are individuals who enjoy running.

Do you organize other races during the Weekend? If so, on what distances?

The event comprises of three races : the Marathon, Half Marathon and the 10 km Road Race.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

The average temperature in March is between 9 to 20 degrees centigrade.

Have you planned festivities around the marathon?

A unique atmosphere will be created prior to, during and after the race by a band who will perform for athletes and spectators alike. Enjoy traditional Cypriot and Greek dancing after the race and make the effort to join in. The event will also incorporate a number of activities, which will make it a fun event for all the family.

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Pafos before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

Pafos seduces its visitor with its majestic landscape, lovely coastline, historical treasures and delightful villages where tradition is still a way of life. Kept in harmony with nature are many mediaeval monasteries, which lie peacefully in the Pafos heartland.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Cyprus Marathon?

Travel to Cyprus this winter to run in the historic city of Pafos and finish strong at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square!
