About the event

12-Hour Run to End Homelessness presented by Trinity Capital Advisors

Global Running Day (June 2, 2021) is just around the corner. The holiday is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. We challenge you to get up and get moving, but this year do it for a worthy cause. Join RunningWorks for the sixth annual 12-Hour Run to End Homelessness.

This race is designed to raise awareness about issues of homelessness and poverty in Mecklenburg County. Our 2021 goal is to encourage runners across Charlotte (and around the world) to run a collective 3,456 miles. According to the Mecklenburg County Community Support Services “One Number” February 2021 report, there are a minimum of 3,456 individuals (adults and children) experiencing homelessness in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Each mile ran represents one of these individuals!

For the second year in a row, the 12-Hour Run to End Homelessness is going virtual! The good news is that means you can choose the course, distance, pace and time of day to run that's most convenient for you. No need to set your alarm, circle the block for parking or stand in long lines to register. Technically, you don't even have to leave your house. But it's probably much more fun to get outside. This race is stroller-friendly. Pets of all kinds are welcome.

HOW DOES IT WORK? 1.  Sign Up

Sign up online and join RunningWorks staff, volunteers, community members and clients as we look to run, jog and walk as many miles as we can to raise awareness and financial support to combat homelessness and poverty in the community. The event is free to sign up!

2.  Go the Extra Mile

Help raise awareness and financial contributions to support the resources and services offered by RunningWorks for Charlotte’s homeless community by raising funds via your individual and Team Fundraising page. We hope you’ll consider joining us in our 12-hour Run to End Homelessness Fundraising Challenge!

3.  Run. Walk. Have Fun.

How far are you willing to run to raise awareness about homelessness in our community? Commit to running (or walking) anytime between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on June 2 (Global Running Day). Get out and run (or walk) where you are and track your miles. Keep going until you reach your goal. It doesn't matter if you run all your miles at once or in intervals throughout the day. The goal is just to get it done and have fun doing it.

Due to recent changes in mask restrictions, pop-up locations are available! Come join RunningWorks staff and team members at First Ward Park from 11 am - 2 pm on race day!

4.  Report your mileage & earn badges

All participants will be asked to electronically report miles ran/walked which will be displayed on our “Results” page. You can record your mileage all at one time or in intervals throughout the day. Reporting instructions will be communicated prior to the event start and on the “Results” page. Also new to 2021 are BADGES! Badges are earned throughout the 12-hour event when a milestone is completed and the result submitted by a participant. Stay tuned for more badge details!

5.  Celebrate your accomplishments

Once you reach your personal goal (or surpass it), print out your Finisher Certificate and share it with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtags #RWTeam, #12HourRun, #GlobalRunningDay, #GlobalRunningDayChallenge.

You don’t have to wait until you complete the race to tag us online. Connect with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Share your journey as you prepare for race day – starting with the moment you decide to register – and tag us in your post. We may share your content with other runners on our site. After all, we are in this together, even though we are apart.
