Lyle's Myles 5K Run/Walk

After years of finishing runs at the back of the pack, local denizen Lyle Smith decided it was time for a change. For his 60th Birthday, Lyle devised a race that would guarantee a win by adding one extra rule —anyone who crosses the finish line before him is disqualified. For 26 years Lyle has taken first place in this event (go figure). However, there is no dishonor in being disqualified, as trophies are given out for runners/walkers that are the “Fastest Disqualified” in their age group.

The 27th Annual Lyle's Myles 5K Run/Walk will be held on July 11th, 2020, in association with Saturday in the Park Pride, Vancouver’s annual Pride festival. The race will start at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver, and the course will be a quick, flat out-and-back along the shore of the Columbia River.

11:00 AM        Saturday in the Park

AIDS is very much a global issue but also local to Clark County. For 26 years Lyle’s Myles has consistently provided several thousand dollars a year to worthy charities, primarily focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, educations, and relief in our community. In 2019 we partnered with the Vancouver Metro Sunset Rotary Club to ensure the event grows and continues into the future. All of the proceeds from Lyle's Myles go to charity. 2/3 of the proceeds are distributed to the following HIV/AIDS and public health charities:

Martha's Pantry - providing food, toiletries, clothing and more for individuals and families in Clark County, WA living with HIV/AIDS.Cascade AIDS Project - providing HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and STI testing servicesGlobal Partners For Development - funding public health projects in Africa and helping prevent the spread of AIDS

The remaining 1/3 will go to Vancouver Metro Sunset Rotary Club charitable fund. Recent projects by the VMSRC charitable fund have helped the YWCA of Clark County, Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School in Vancouver, and a sustainable clean water project in Haiti.
