Despite not being able to come together in person this year, we are still excited to help bring people together online, to raise awareness about post traumatic stress, and to show veterans that there is hope.
The virtual run/walk will open soon and end on October 4, 2020 to coincide with the conclusion of our Veterans Refresher Training. Veterans and their service dogs from the last nine years are brought back to our campus during this training to refresh both their own skills and their dogs’. We are working on a plan to include these veteran/service dog graduates in a Facebook Live event on October 4 to conclude the virtual run/walk. Between the opening of the run and October 4, we will be engaging with participants through a Facebook Group. Our plan is to share photos and videos from our trainers and veterans, and to prompt participants to share your own photos. This group has always amazed and inspired us with the heart and creativity that you bring to the Color Run, and we are excited to see what new ways you find to express your support and encouragement for our veterans.
In each of the past two years we have raised enough money to fully sponsor a veteran and service dog team. These sponsorships cover the costs of the training of a PTSD service dog, and offset all of the expenses associated with bringing a veteran to the This Able Veteran campus for three weeks for the Trauma Resiliency Program. The money also provides housing, training equipment and most all of their meals at NO cost to the veteran.
We know everything is different this year, but we want to keep up the momentum and try to raise enough money for another veteran/service dog team sponsorship. That means we need to raise at least $29,000.
We hope you’ll consider participating and help us in getting the word out.
Thank you for your understanding and support! We look forward to seeing you online.
Please note: Our first priority is the health of safety of everyone participating as well as the people in the communities in which you live. Please adhere to all public health orders, directives, and recommendations as you run or walk. We want EVERYONE to be there when we are able to come back together in-person again next time.
