It’s almost time for the second ever, Abilene Good Neighbor .5K—The Race for the REST of Us! The date for this year’s amazing race is October 26, 2019.
Once again the site will be out on China Street as we reverse engineer the course by starting at Sockdolager Brewing Co. and finishing half a K down the street at Pappy Slokum Brewery. This is for all comers because we can all manage to stroll 1,638 feet! This second of a kind event will start at 11:00 a.m. and end when this party with a purpose runs out of gas.
Join with neighbors from all across West Texas in a tongue-in-cheek athletic event that’s actually doable! Kids (and those who think they are kids) and dogs (with their owners on a leash) are welcome. Kiddos ages 5 to 12 are $15 and kiddos under age 5 are free! Here are the details:
All finishers will receive a .5K oval sticker like those people love to put on the rear window of their cars to show everyone that for some unknown reason they have run a long way. Now everyone is an “athlete”!
T-shirts of course! Suitable for reliving this momentous occasion, proving that you’re a finisher, and mowing the yard.
Participation “medals” (coasters with ribbons attached)! Everyone is someone at the .5K and we want to recognize that!
Donut station at the halfway point (819 feet!) for carb-loading and Dixie cups of some liquid you quickly down so you can wad up the cup and throw it in the direction of a trash can you’ll probably miss.
Lot’s of photo opportunities with friends, neighbors, strangers, etc.
Individual and group costume contest! This is a great opportunity to test-drive your Halloween get-up! Fabulous “prizes” (CCC stuff we need to get rid of)!
Free samples of craft beer! (Show up early!)
Two lucky “runners” will receive “FREE beer for a year”!
Other stuff as we think of it!
Proceeds raised will go to a nonprofit organization for all of us, Connecting Caring Communities, the folks who are all about loving your neighbors and loving your neighborhoods here in Abilene.
