About the event

Pikes Peak Road Runners (PPRR) and the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) have collaborated again to bring a unique challenge in 2021; in place of the long-running American Discovery Trail races, participate in a new hybrid challenge! The two organizations have worked together for years to hold the ADT Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k races, where all proceeds were given back to our community. We are dedicated to trail stewardship and community running events striving to make the Pikes Peak Region a great place to live and be active as a family. Please help continue this community-based effort by running a unique challenge and contributing to our important community cause.

PPRR was informed early in 2020 that the City of Colorado Springs would not be allowing any events to take place in America the Beautiful Park due to the construction of the Olympic museum and pedestrian bridge. We immediately started searching for new venues to hold a quality event. COVID-19 then gripped the world and instead of canceling the ADT races all together, we reimagined what racing to benefit our community could look like in 2020, creating the Two Shoes Trek Challenge / 2020 Virtual.

The Two Shoes Trek Challenge has evolved for 2021 to include a live event which will take place in El Paso County’s Fox Run Regional Park. Along with the Fox Run event, a virtual event will take place in two City Parks, Monument Valley Park and Palmer Park, creating the Two Shoes Trek Challenge 2021 Hybrid.

This event showcases several county and city trails throughout our unique and beautiful landscape. Participants will run a 5-mile, 10-mile, or 15-mile course virtually on September 4, 5, or 6 in either Monument Valley Park or Palmer Park.  The following weekend a live event will be held in Fox Run Regional Park. Participants will have the opportunity to run a 5k, 10k, or 30k. All proceeds from these events will go directly back into the Colorado Springs community for park and trail maintenance and to help PPRR with its mission of cultivating health and fitness in the Pikes Peak region through a community of runners and friends.

All donations will be split between El Paso County Parks, Trails and Open Space Coalition and Pikes Peak Road Runners.

I ran this as my 2nd half marathon in 2018. It's a well organized race and I will run it again in 2019. Support is good. There are aid stations are very well placed with water and sports drink and there are portos (if I remember right) at the beginning. It's chipped, you get a finisher medal, and shirt. There's water, beer, and bananas/watermelon at the end. Small enough that you can stretch out but big enough to have support. There were some supporters along the route with some really cute signs. There's a bag drop but I just put my bag behind a tree without any issues. The trail is an out and back that a little uphill for the first split and but then you get the reward on the way back. (The full marathon starts North and passes the half -- everyone finishes at the same spot). However, by Colorado standards, the altitude gain in very minimal. The route is very pretty -- it's along a trail that mostly follows a stream and is mostly shaded. There's only 1 spot that you cross a road but the road is not busy and there were guards out stopping traffic. It's mostly gravel and cement paths but I would recommend just regular running shoes vs trailers.
