Sunday, April 28, 2019 @ 9:00 am
Sylvester Avenue, Berrien Springs, MI 49103
Backpacks for Berrien 5K is a chip-timed 5K Run and Walk to raise funds and awareness in support of Backpacks for Berrien, a local initiative to provide K-12 students in need with food and school supplies. The event is hosted through a partnership with SWMI RACERS and Andrews University Enactus Team.
Backpacks for Berrien is a local coalition of 29 volunteers in Berrien Springs, that provides meals and snacks for each day over the weekend to children in need of food assistance. Started in the spring of 2015 by a group of community members as they saw the need to provide school supplies, it has now grown to include meals and supplies during the school year. This coalition currently impacts the lives of 65 public school students. Although the impact is great, it is projected that Backpacks for Berrien can reach 60 students more if it were to provide food assistance to 100 percent of the children who need it.
