BCRC Family Fun in the Sun 5K Run

Calling all runners, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts!  Come run through a great Community!  Please join us on opening day of our beautiful Broyhill Crest Recreation Club pool for our first annual community 5K fun run. The course will be a great mixture of rolling hills and flat, shaded park trail. It's a run / walk so come out whether it’s your first 5K or you are trying to set that PR.  The event is stroller-friendly and pet-friendly so don't worry about getting a babysitter or dogsitter - we don't want anyone in the family left behind!

Race Day Schedule
The 1st annual BCRC Family Fun in the Sun 5K is Saturday, May 26, 2018 (Memorial Day weekend) with festivities from 9am-11am. The 5K run will be followed by the season opening of the POOL!  The Crepe Love food truck will be on site offering sweet and savory breakfast crepes post run.  They take cash or credit cards.  See their menu here:  http://www.crepeamour.com/menu.html  Picnic tables will be set out in the parking lot so come burn some calories during the run, gain them back with a delicious crepe, and lounge by the pool with us!

8:30am:  arrive, check-in, grab complimentary coffee, prepare to run or walk

9:00am:  5K (3.1 mile) run/walk with 1 mile turnaround point

10:45am:  *FREE*  25 meter dash for runners 5 & under

11:00am:  run finishes, POOL OPENS (free for all, including non-members)

Entrance fee:  $5.00 per runner  *stroller children are free*

The BCRC parking lot will be closed to make space for race participants, food vendors, and the 5 and under 25 meter run.  Parking is available along Murray Lane, Oliver Ave, or any other streets surrounding the run.  Additionally, participants may use the Cornerstone Evangelical Church's parking lot and use the foot path that connects to the BCRC pool (two minute walk).  Their address is 3901 Gallows Rd, Annandale, VA.

Course Description
We start and finish right in front of the BCRC pool at 7212 Early St, Annandale, VA.  This course is a loop.  From the pool, we will take a right onto Murray Lane and stay the course until we reach Fern Lane.  Take a left on Fern Lane and one block later turn right onto Sprucedale Drive.  At the end of this cul-de-sac, follow the entrance to the Holmes Run trail.  After 25 meters we'll encounter a T-intersection and follow the path to the left, over the creek.  Follow the signs on the trail (past Rose Lane Park) for approximately one mile.  There will be another T-intersection and we'll go to the left, over the creek again.  We'll exit the park onto Murray Lane and follow it three blocks to the finish line. 

At the halfway point of the 5K, on the trail near Rose Lane Park, you will find our Water and Aid Station with ice cold water and basic first aid materials.  All major turns will be marked with a sign to help keep participants on track.  This course was designed with as few turns as possible to keep the route simple.
