About the event
Meet management is pleased to announce the addition of a Bob Jenkins Memorial 5K open road race for the third year to support Worthy Boys and Girls Camp in Rock Hill prior to the start of the SCRUNNERS Meet of Champions, presented by Winthrop University track and field and Mitchell Timing, on May 21 at Winthrop's Irwin Belk Track in Rock Hill.
Prior to Jenkins' passing, the longtime coach hosted a Yellow Mountain 5K in Banner Elk to support Yellow Mountain. This year the race is 3.1 miles (5K).
"To host a road race for a cause that Bob supported means a lot to me as a friend and supporter of the sports," said scrunners Managing Editor John Olson in a statement. "I hope to see a large crowd not only for the meet but also to show support for the Jenkins family and road race through participants, supporters and spectators."

The Worthy Boys Camp began in 1949 when 48 acres of land were donated to the Rock Hill Pistol Club for a training and firing range. The donation came with the stipulation that a camp for kids had to be developed. The first camp opened that very same year and has been in almost continuous operation since that time. In 1995, the camp became The Worthy Boys and Girls Camp. Now, the camp welcomes almost 200 York County youth every year.
Groucho’s Deli of Rock Hill is sponsoring the event.
