Boston Friends of Safe Passage 5K Race and Fun Walk

Welcome to Boston Friends of Safe Passage -- supporting a progressive and empowering education for 500+ students, ages 4 - 20, and their families from the community of the Guatemala City garbage dump. Safe Passage has grown from a simple drop-in center for children in 1999 to a registered independent school in for a hands-on Pre-K, a full-day Primary School with an Expeditionary Learning curriculum, a scholarship and after-school program for high school students. A new Expeditionary Learning Middle School is opening in January 2019.

Please join us for our 10th Annual 5K Race and Fun Walk on Saturday, September 22, 8:30 - 11:00 am at Artesani Park along the Charles River in Boston. Our goal for this event is to raise $30,000 to support the Safe Passage middle school's science and technology program. The middle school will open with the first 2 classes of 7th graders in 2019 and add a 8th and 9th grades in 2020 and 2021! To break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala City, these students need a modern education, with STEM skills, English, computer literacy, persistence and confidence. Safe Passage partners with students, families, businesses, and the broader community to provide these life-changing, skill-building opportunities.Your race participation and support for the Boston 5K will speed these students to their own finish line! We hope you can join us!
