About the event

The Breaker to Breaker is a 10K BEACH RUN (or walk), beginning and ending at Pine Point in Scarborough. Participants will run down the beach to the pier at Old Orchard, turn around and return to the start. The race will take place at low tide when the sand is compact and the surface is completely flat!  

ONLINE REGISTRATION:

          closes at midnight on Friday, August 10th

IN-PERSON REGISTRATION: 

    Saturday, August   11th  10:00 am - 1:00pm     Fleet Feet,  Marginal Way in Portland  

    Sunday, August 12th    6:30am - 7:45am    Grassy parking lot on the corner of Avenue 5 and King Street in Scarborough 

 

There are many GREAT PERKS to participants in this race:

-  Shipyard Beer will be providing coupons for 2 free beers at the nearby Bait Shed Restaurant or The Garage BBQ!  

 

All profits from the race will benefit Partners for World Health, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 in Portland whose mission is to collect unused medical supplies from local medical facilities and distribute them to countries in need, effectively limiting the negative impact on the environment; to send local medical personnel on medical missions to developing countries; and to educate the local community about global health issues.

 

RACE DETAILS:

 

Packet Pickup:     Saturday, August 11th      10:00am - 1:00pm       

Fleet Feet Sports Maine Running, 309 Marginal Way, Portland    

We will have your bib and your Shipyard beer coupons for you, as well as a race t-shirt and/or a goody bag if you qualified. 

Race Day Packet Pickup:     Sunday, August 12th     6:30 - 7:45am  

If you are not able to pick up your packet on Saturday, you may do so on Sunday morning at the Registration Table in the Breaker to Breaker Reserved Parking Lot at the corner of Avenue 5 and King Street (see directions below).

 

Race Time & Location:

8:00am, Pine Point Beach, Scarborough, ME  

The entrance to the beach is through the Municipal Parking Lot on Avenue 5.  Turn left and walk down approximately 1/4 mile to the start/finish line. The race will run down the beach on the hardpacked sand near the water's edge. Approximately 525' past the Old Orchard Beach Pier, you will be directed around cones to head back the way you came, finishing at the same place that you started. Please clear this area as quickly as you can upon finishing. 

 

Water Stop:

There will be a water stop at Mile 2, which is also Mile 4 on your return.

 

Directions to Pine Point Beach:

From Portland/North of Pine Point Beach via 95S:

Take exit 42 toward ME-1/Scarborough and turn right onto Payne Road. Continue on Payne Road for approximately 2.5 miles until you reach a T-intersection. Turn right onto ME-1 South and then turn left onto Route 9/Pine Point Road immediately after passing Rite Aid. Continue for approximately 4 miles until you reach a T-intersection and turn left onto Jones Creek Drive. Continue on Jones Creek Drive for approximately .5 miles and turn right onto Avenue 5. Continue along Avenue 5 towards King Street. 

From South of Pine Point Beach via 95N:

Take exit 36 for 195N towards Saco/Old Orchard Beach. Continue on 195N for approximately 1.5 miles and take exit 2B to merge onto ME-1 North/Main Street toward Saco. Take the second right on ME-1 to merge onto Ross Road. Continue on Ross Road for approximately 5 miles and then turn right onto Route 9/Pine Point Road. (It is the last turn before you reach a cul de sac). Continue for approximately 1 mile until you reach a T-intersection and turn left onto Jones Creek Drive. Continue on Jones Creek Drive for approximately .5 mile and turn right onto Avenue 5. Continue along Avenue 5 towards King Street.

 

Parking Options:

Reserved Breaker to Breaker Parking Lot:
Turn right onto King Street and our reserved parking is the grassy lot immediately on your right. Please observe the instructions of the parking lot attendants so we can fully utilize the space.  


Municipal Parking Lot:
If the reserved lot shows a "Full" sign, continue along Avenue 5 to the public Municipal Parking Lot.  The entrance to the lot is on right just before Ave 5 curves to the left.

Fisherman's Co-op Lot:
If the municipal lot is full, turn around so you are driving back down Avenue 5 and turn right onto King Street. Drive approximately 1/4 mile to the end of the road and pull into the Fisherman's Co-op parking lot on the waterfront.  Please follow the instructions of the volunteers directing you back to the beach - we need to stay on the street and NOT cut through any private property.  The walk along King Street is just a few minutes.

Street parking in the area is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
 

Shipyard Beer - you will receive one coupon that is redeemable for 2 Shipyard beers at The Bait Shed or The Garage BBQ from race day through 10/14/18.  Directions:

     The Bait Shed Restaurant & Bar: Located at Bayley's Lobster Pound, 2 blocks from the Breaker to Breaker reserved           grassy parking lot, walk down Avenue 5 towards Jones Creek Drive and turn right.  One block ahead you will see                   Bayley's Lobster Pound.  The entrance to The Bait Shed restaurant is on the left. 

     The Garage BBQ: Located 6 blocks from the Breaker to Breaker reserved grassy parking lot, The Garage BBQ is at the       corner of Pine Point Road and Jones Creek Drive.  It is best to drive to this location as it is at a busy intersection.  

 

Restroom Facilities:

There will be 3 portapotties set up in the Breaker to Breaker Reserved Parking Lot (corner of Avenue 5 and King Street). There are also restrooms in the Municipal Parking Lot.

 

 Awards:

The awards ceremony will be held at 9:45 at the Breaker to Breaker Reserved Parking Lot at the corner of King Street and Avenue 5.
