About the event

We invite you to join us for the 6th annual Change of Heart Community Day with a 5 and 10 k race to be held, May 19 at 9am at Goddard State Park.

The race is in memory of Jerry Cresswell, Sr. who went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2013. Jerry fought a tough fight against pancreatic cancer and through the battle he rededicated his life to Christ. His pastor in Melbourne, Fl, said that in 11 months of his battle he brought more people to church than he'd ever seen there.

It was Jerry's desire to help others and so in May 2013 we held our first Change of Heart Community Days with proceeds going to a little girl in our community with cystic fibrosia. Each year we have chosen a child or an adult to help with the proceeds we raised. Thanks to community members we have raised over $2000. each year which went to the family to help with expenses.

This year our committee has chosen Zoe Cresswell. In February 2016 Zoe, who was 7yrs old at that time, was diagnosed with a brain tumor called a Tectal Glioma which caused her to have hydrocephalus. Zoe then went under surgery to correct the hydrocephalus, this is called ETV (endoscopic third ventriculostomy) surgery. This makes another natural pathway for the cerebrospinal fluid to drain. In November of 2016 her ETV surgery had gotten scar tissue over it so the Neurosurgeon went back in and opened it up.This surgery was successful. In January of 2017 Zoe developed a chronic headache that she still has to this day. However they may never find what has caused this. Zoe has been in and out of the hospital 3 times since then. Each stay she is there 2 to 3 days at a time trying to get her pain down. She is now 9 yrs old. Her neurologist is working hard with her to see if we can find a medicine to help the pain. Through out this whole Path in her life Zoe has never gotten down. She says this will not defeat her. She is an A,B student. She loves to play soccer, basketball and softball. Even when the pain has gotten bad she fights through the pain and keeps on playing. She is simply AMAZING. She also has an amazing big sister,Paige who is always there for her. Specially when she has to go to the hospital. She comes down and watches movies with her or plays with her. We have two amazing girls that god has blessed us with and help us get through this.

If you are not a runner, but still want to help Zoe and her family, donations can be made out to Change of Heart Community Day and sent to Bess Campbell, 2554 Perry Hwy, Clarks Mills, Pa. 16114
