About the event
Begun as a fundraising event to benefit the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in nearby Chapel Hill, N.C., the Charity Chase Half Marathon features an out-and-back course that starts and finishes in downtown Hickory, and takes runners on a tour of this town's natural beauty and scenic downtown areas. The more than 380 runners who took part in the 2009 running of the event (its 4th annual) toured areas including Geitner Park, Lenoir-Rhyne College and the finish line at Union Square in downtown.
