Great experience, beautiful 42KM track, remarkable organisation. We started the race at 3:00 AM from the Chiang Mai city. Lots of spectators to cheer you up along the way and great friendly atmosphere all the way. Can't wait to run it again in 2023!

Due to the cooling climate, the run was very enjoyable and the main factor is because the route was very flat, but beautiful view of sun rise as you run.

Main reason was the route, very flat. Hence a run of 21 or 42km is reasonable.

I flew into Chiangmai from Singapore on Friday afternoon before the Sunday Marathon, during the 2018 Christmas holiday period. On arrival, the Race Pack collection at Tha Phae Gate was smooth & well organised. The Full Marathon was supposed to start at 4am on Sunday but was brought forward to 1am, due to runners' feedback on traffic & safety issues. There were also a record number of FM & HM runners that year. There was heavy security at the Tha Phae Gate Start Point with electronic gantry for FM runners. Night time temperature was 17-20°C & humidity 70%. The course was mostly flat & on roadway. It looped around the Old City moat to run pass Chiangmai Hospital, the western side of the Airport, and cruised south to make 3 U-turns & one circus at the Zoo & Night Safari area before charting North & back to finish at the Tha Phae Gate. Besides a girls' dance group at 28km & a lion dance at Start Point, cheer support was scarce in the middle of the night. Only a few distance markers were prominently displayed but water stations & first aid stations were regular. There were only three isotonic drinks stations & three banana fruit stations throughout the course. There was a health screening station, drinks stands & food stalls for a hearty breakfast at the finish point of the marathon. Distance measurements were accurate for the FM which I ran in, but I was told that many runners charted only 9.4km in the "Mini Marathon" & many were ebullient with their PBs for the 10km run. Despite its minor imperfections, I had a great time in Chiangmai running this marathon. The weather was perfect and Thai people were friendly, gracious & helpful. I made new friends & visited Doi Suthep on Saturday. I also had a recovery trek at Doi Inthanon National Park during Christmas after the marathon.

The Thai people were friendly & gracious and I made some friends during my Christmas holidays there.

I am a veteran racer of nearly 1000 races in nearly 50 different and the Chiang Mai Half Marathon organised by Jog and Joy is by far the worst I have ever done. In 2018 I travelled to Chiang Mai with the primary aim of racing the half marathon. For starters the start time was changed less than 2 weeks before the start from an inconveniant 4am to an incredibly awkward 2 am start meaning the whole race was in the dark with limited street lighting and the roads were still open to traffic, which I thought was quite dangerous. The course and atmosphere were dull but the biggest problem was when I was actually in second place overall with around 2km left and was taken the wrong way by one of the lead cyclists who were supposed to accompany the race leaders and direct them. This meant i taken an extra 2km and obviously lost 4 places thus missing out on my clear 2nd place and prize money. None of the race marshalls witnessing my wrong turn said anything and I did not see it for myself as it was too dark but I foolishly trusted the official race cyclist. There was a severe lack of sympathy and understanding of the organisers at the finish who were quite rude and did not admit to their mistake. I found out later that I was in fact removed from the results altogether, in attempt to cover up their error. I sent a follow up email asking for a refund for my race entry as the very least they could do but this and all subsequent attempts to contact the organisers at Jog and Joy were just ignored. This was the most negative experience I have had in over 15 years of racing and I was extremely disappointed and I urge you to avoid this race and all Jog and Joy events.

The 'official' distance was found to be significantly short

I never feel so happy after i did a marathon like the one before. Chiang Mai Marathon will always be my favorite marathon ever. I love the weather. We started the marathon at 01.00am, no traffic, not too crowded, and the temperature was awesome 18 degrees celcius. Instead of being rehydrated, i did not choose to drink a lot in every 2km of water station. It because of the weather was so friendly. I will return!

You will be running circling the outter square of chiang mai old town. And most of the chiang mai city area, including airport and the zoo.

Nice weather and temperature (15C-20C). Many international participants. Sufficient water stations. Flat road. School children cheering the participants near the finishing line.

It's very exciting and Wonderful race! Because it's night, we can't receive cheers from citizens, but I hope the volunteers at the water fountain will cheer us on. Then you can have more strength

Fantastic event, really well organised, couldn’t have asked for better. Lots of water stations too so really didn’t need my hydration bladder!

Third marathon completed and best time yet! Thank you Chiang Mai, you were awesome!

It was well organised, plenty of toilets at the start. Lots of water stations on route, and pacers for whatever time you were trying to do. Food and drinks at the finish, and transport back to Chiang Mai. The only complaint I would have, as an older runner,I am 73 and no recognition for 70 and up, the age group only went to 60 and up.

It was a mostly flat course, with a bit of elevation about 2K out from the finish.

This was a great route, very scenic, well organized. For some reason, my result didn't appear right after the race and I was worried my chip had malfunctioned. But an hour or two later it appeared and all was good.
