Vertical Running : Indomitable Lobodzinski and Walsham winners in Beijing

Credit : Beijing Vertical Run Reigning Vertical World Circuit champions, Piotr Lobodzinski and Suzy Walsham are yet again on top of the world after scaling the heights of Beijing’s tallest tower, Lobodzinski setting a new record. The seventh stage of the Vertical World Circuit nine-race tour took place in China’s capital on September 3, the fourth edition of the China World Summit Wing Hotel Vertical Run. Some 700 runners from 24 countries climbed the 2,041 steps of the building to the rooftop overlooking the city. Lobodzinski, exhausted, breathless, ecstatic, threw himself to the ground at the finish line after an incredible performance shaving 6” off the previous record to close in 9’47”. Second was Australian Mark Bourne in 10’13” and third, Jia Er Ren Jia from China in 11’24”. Lobodzinski commented, “I’m very happy and satisfied with the fourth win in a row and being here in China World Summit Wing, Beijing. I will continue to be motivated to protect my champion title next year!” For Australian Suzy Walsham it was another victory, but her 2013 record of 11’46” remains intact. Her winning time today was 11’51”. Second lady was Gao Meng from China with another Australian, Alice McNarama, third, closing in 12’19” and 12’55” respectively. I’m definitely thrilled with that,” said Walsham. “The hotel is also the tallest building that I have climbed this year. I am very happy to reach the top to see this view!” After four straight wins in Beijing, Manila, Dubai and London, Lobodzinski leads the VWC ranking. Spaniard Ignacio Cardona is ranked second and Mark Bourne third. Walsham leads the women’s ranking also after four clear wins, followed by Italian Cristina Bonacina and Czech Lenka Svabikova, third. After London, Dubai, New York, Paris, Manila, Sydney and today’s event in Bejing, the Vertical World Circuit will continue in Asia. Next stop isShanghai on October 23 and concludes with the grand finale in Hong Kong on December 4 at the SHKP Vertical Run for Charity: Race to Hong Kong ICC where the World Champions will be crowned and awarded the VWC final 100,000 HKD prize. China World Summit Wing, Beijing to hold the Vertical Run 2016 on September 3

Running enthusiasts have signed up for this exhilarating race, but vertical running powerhouses make up the elite category for this year’s event. Following the success of last year’s event, this year’s race has sold out once again as the momentum of vertical running is grabbing the interest of locals and over 20 countries’ international athletes. Beijing’s tallest building has been selected as Official Race for the 2016 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s premier skyscraper racing circuit uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races, including the One World Trade Center in New York City. Runners participating in the VWC will be assigned points based on their result and the male and female competitors with the total highest scores at the end of the year will be declared world champion. As one of the stops of 2016 Vertical World Circuit, Shangri-La’s China World Summit Wing Vertical Run has 82 floors and 2,041 steps. The fastest runners are expected to reach the rooftop in less than ten minutes and break the record of 9’53. Other cities to join the VWC in 2016 are New York, London, Dubai, Paris, Manila, Sydney, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The elite runners from different countries will compete for a total prize purse of US$6,000. Piotr Lobodzinski and Walsham to defend titles Piotr Lobodzinski of Poland won last year’s male elite division by setting the overall fastest time in 9 minutes and 53 second. Lobodzinski is the reigning world champion and favourite to win this year’s Vertical World Circuit. World Champion Wins Beijing’s Tallest Vertical Run

Beijing, China, 7 September 2014 – Piotr Lobodinski of Poland won the China World Summit Wing Hotel Vertical Run on Sunday, setting the overall fastest time up the China World Summit Wing – Beijing’s tallest building. Winning the event is Lobodinski’s second outright victory on this year’s Vertical World Circuit, earning him 100 points on the men’s ranking. The 29-year old Pole finished in a time of 10 minutes and 1 second to take home the winning prize purse of US$1,500. “It was amazing to compete with so many athletes and crossing the finish line atop Beijing’s highest building is an incredible feeling. I feel on top of the world.” Lobodzinski said. Second place in the men’s event went to Thomas Dold from Germany. He came in at 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Third place went to Omar Bekkali of Belgium in a time of 11 minutes and 11 seconds. Thomas Dold of Germany was placed second, 9 seconds behind, clocking 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Omar Bekkali of Belgium came third in 11 minutes and 11 seconds. In the female division, reigning women’s Vertical World Champion Suzy Walsham of Australia climbed to victory, finishing in 11 minutes 50 seconds, beating China’s Xue Gan by 1 minute and 47 seconds. “It was a tough race with so many elite athletes performing so well but I pushed myself towards the end and I wanted to win this race again that is one of the most talked about on the circuit,” she said. “It feels wonderful to share this accomplishment with so many runners from across the globe.” Haymanot Seyd Ali of Ethiopia finished third in 14 minutes and 7 seconds. The event is an Official Race for the 2014 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s premier skyscraper racing circuit, uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races.
