CRC Mile Dash

We're closing out year number thirteen for the CRC, and it's time to party and head into our teen years!  This celebration is as much about you as it is the CRC, so we hope you can join us.

Be sure to sign up for the proper heat based on your age (elite runners in the first heat, Grasshoppers and kids in the second heat, and 6:00-minute mile pace and slower in the third).  This will help us keep the evening moving quickly.

The Schedule for the Day

8am: The weekly Columbus Running Club group run, with a birthday twist! Some things never change!
10am-6:30pm: The Sale. LEGENDARY. EPIC. No words give it justice. Begins at 9am for Columbus Running Club members.
3pm: Mile Dash day of registration and number pick-up begins.
5:00pm: The Elite Heat for the Mile Dash begins. HS Mascots Included. Faster than 6:00/mi only please!
5:20pm: Grasshoppers/Kids Heat. For grades 2-6. Most kids will be part of our summer club, the Grasshoppers.
5:40pm: Adult Open Heat. 6:00/mile pace and slower runners and walkers in this heat.

The Details

The Elite Mile, 5pm: The start is one mile from the store, the same course as previous years. Flat and fast. Spectators and youngsters will be gathered at the finish line awaiting your blistering arrival and cheering on their school's mascot! There will be no shuttle out to the start line, please plan to walk or jog out to the start area prior to your fast mile. This heat is for those running faster than a six-minute mile.

Grasshoppers/Kid's Heat, 5:20pm: Many of our Grasshoppers Summer Running Club will be in this race! It's open to anyone, though, age 13 and under. This is an out and back mile, starting and finishing at what has been the finish line for the past 11 years. They'll have plenty of fans to cheer them on!

Open Heat, 5:40pm: The open heat for all adults. This is an out and back mile, starting and finishing at what has been the finish line for the past 11 years. This heat is for those running a six-minute or slower mile.

Birthday BBQ and Bash: Join us on the patio at BW3's as we relive the action, give awards, and enjoy a great summer evening.

$2,000 High School Mascot Challenge

Open to all local high school teams

The HS Mascot Challenge is a great way to get your team together mid-summer for some running, bonding, and fund-raising. Beyond a great time, here is what your team can win:

1st Place: $750 2nd Place: $450 3rd Place: $350 4th Place: $250 5th Place: $200 6th and up: Free merchandise such as spike bags, stickers, etc.

The Rules

Rule #1 Every team must have a mascot. A sweet mascot. The mascot must run the race. The mascot can be a student, coach, or parent. You can't just wear a bandana and call it a mascot. Represent and make it legit! 

Rule #2 Mascots will be participating in the elite heat, at 5pm.  

Rule #3 Every team must have AT LEAST 10 people on their team. You can have 52 people on your team, but not just 8. These people must be athletes on the team, coaches, parents or siblings of students on the team.  

Rule #4 You need to pre-register online. While we will have race day registration (both paper and by computer), to quickly and accurately compute the winning times all mascot dash team members must be registered online by July 14th.

Rule #5 Have fun! Kick back with everyone at the BBQ Birthday Bash afterparty. Awards for winners of the Mascot Challenge will take place at the party. 

How You Win!

The mascot runs as fast as possible. We will record the mile time of the mascot during the race. For every other person on the team to finish the race, we will deduct 10 seconds off their team's mascot. So....

Your mascot finishes the mile in 7 minutes. Your team has 10 people finish the race, including the mascot. 10 people x 10 seconds = 1 min. 40 sec. Your teams overall time is 5:20. You may have just won cash for your school's cross country team!

The winning team will be announced at the after party at Buffalo Wild Wings. Even if you don't win, you're going to have a great time with your team, the CRC, and the running community!
