Derby's B.E.S.T 5K

Derby’s B.E.S.T. 5k Run – Mile Walk is a community-based event held in Derby, CT. It is hosted by the Derby Campus of Walnut Hill Community Church to Better Empower the Students and Teachers in the Derby Connecticut Public Schools in their pursuit of educational excellence.

Derby Connecticut is a community that struggles to meet the educational needs of its students, which means often initiatives that would enrich, enhance or improve the educational experience in pursuit of excellence go unfunded. The net proceeds from Derby’s B.E.S.T. 5k Run – Mile Walk will be used to fund initiatives, submitted by teachers or administrators, that enhance, enrich or improve the educational experience for students in the Derby Public Schools in pursuit of educational excellence. Only funding requests that meet the stated guidelines, goals and objectives will be accepted and considered for funding. Each accepted funding request will be evaluated and scored using a rubric to determine rank of finding. Funding will be provided according to each funding request’s rubric score from greatest to least until available funding is exhausted.

Recognition will be given to the largest group representing one of the four schools in Derby, Bradley School, Irving School, Derby Middle School and Derby High School. If you attend one of these locations, please join the appropriate school group when you register for the race.

Come out, walk or run this 5k with us on the beautiful Derby Greenway to brighten the future of Derby’s Public School children and help them be all that they can be!

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Children’s Fun Run (1 mile) begins at 8:30 a.m. Mile Walk and 5k Run begins at 9:00 a.m. Post race refreshments available after crossing the finish line Free Bib # Raffle begins at 9:30 a.m. Race Awards presented at 10:00 a.m.
