Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. Proceeds from the Dominate Diabetes 5K Run/Walk will help support FREE diabetes screening, along with patient and community education throughout Northwest Louisiana. According to the most recent research by the CDC, Louisiana is ranked 11th in the nation for people diagnosed with diabetes. The disease can lead to serious complications such as blindness, heart disease, and amputations. David Raines Community Health Centers is committed to educating the community on this debilitating disease. Your generous in-kind donation will aid us in our efforts.
