Earth Day Half Marathon & 5K

EARTH DAY HALF MARATHON & 5K

The Earth Day Half Marathon & 5K has quickly become one of CNY’s most looked forward to springtime races! Along with some of the best swag out there, all participants get a tree to plant! Runners love the connection to the countryside setting. As you run along the low-traffic country roads, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of rolling farmland, pastures with cows and horses and the lookout at Beaver Lake. The race start/finish and post-race fest are at the Emmi Farm’s Greenhouse with lots of parking, conveniently nearby, within walking distance.

The half marathon is mostly a loop course on low-traffic, country roads with many friendly neighbors that come out to cheer you on! The course is described as having rolling hills with a good one, endearingly called Aw-Come-On Hill, just past the 8 mile mark. The 5K is an out & back along two fairly flat stretches of country road.

The Earth Day Half Marathon & 5K event benefits the Syracuse Rescue Mission and local groups.

 

RACE WEATHER & CLIMATE

Baldwinsville is located just 15 miles NW of Syracuse in Central NY. Baldwinsville typically sees temperatures in April range between the high 50’s to mid 60’s, although, in 2016 the temps reached the mid-70’s just 2 weeks after a record shattering snow storm that dropped 6.5 inches of snow in the region and in 2017 we also saw temps in the mid 70’s!

USATF distance-certified. The 1/2 Marathon is on low traffic, country roads that are a combination of long stretches of flat and also a fair amount of rolling hills with miles 8-10 offering the greatest challenge (reward) as there are a couple back to back. EVENT: 5K   START TIME 8:45 AM EST

The 5K course will lead you past the Beaver Lake lookout on Vann Rd and will be run on mostly country roads but may meander briefly onto adjacent farmland if conditions warrant. The country roads are flat with one moderately challenging uphill just before you enter the home stretch.  View the course and elevations on Map My Run HERE.
