EcoMarathon of Chianti Classico - 42Km D + 900 We want to give new colors to the route of the 42 km of the Chianti Classico Ecomarathon, for this reason, we have thought of a route for you with some changes that we hope you will like. We can't wait to travel it together! Below is the story with all the useful information. The new route, up to km 28 , largely maintains the same route, if not for two stretches of about 5 km in the panoramic area of Monti . It remains a not particularly demanding route, with short climbs some challenging, others smooth. Stretches of dirt road, fields, woods and rows of vines alternate . The final part, the last 14 km, will be completely new: you will no longer experience the effort of climbing up to Campi, but you will go through a succession of short climbs and descents that will take you, through vineyards and forest roads , to the arrival. The total positive difference in height decreases slightly, reaching 900 meters and it will be important to dose the energy from the first ascents as the route will be easier to follow, but no less tiring, if faced at a fast pace. The athletes start from the suggestive and ancient Castle of Brolio , which is located at 490 meters above sea level. Thanks to Baron Francesco Ricasoli who for years has allowed us to set up the start at the Castle and to cross his own properties. The panorama and landscapes, made even warmer and more welcoming by the colors of autumn , will make you free from any feeling of fatigue. The first 5 km are almost flat, ideal for warming up, but with a minimum difference in height until the arrival at the Castello di Cacchiano, an altitude of 505 meters above sea level from where you can enjoy an incredible view: a breathtaking view of Siena, the Chianti hills and the villages of Radda and Gaiole, Val d'Orcia with Mount Amiata in the background . Take an easy and short path towards the village of Monti in Chianti and, thanks to the Rocca di Montegrossi company , you will find the 6.0 km refreshment point and the new part of the route 3 km long. It will be an alternation of forest road and vineyards, with a climb of about 100 meters in altitude from km 7.5 to km 9.0. We will continue on the old route in the Monti area. Shortly after you will make a ring (new route) in the direction of the Sodi Morelline companies where you can find drinks and food at the second refreshment point, with an enchanting scenery both in the direction of the Castello di Brolio and the Val d'Orcia. Here you will enter a vineyard and between the rows you will reach (280 meters above sea level) the very modern Badia di Coltibuono winery (km 14). We will continue along a gentle ascent on a dirt road, at km 17.00 (alt. 330m above sea level) near the Castle of Lucignano . Here you will find another refreshment and an enchanting scenery around you. Continue slightly uphill towards the castle of Brolio, following the road called Eroica (cycling event). At km 20 you will enter a vineyard to reach, still uphill, the Podernovi farmhouse (where the film “Ballo alone” directed by Bernardo Bertolucci was shot) to meet the refreshment point at km 21 (405 meters above sea level). You will have in front of you a wonderful scenery both in the direction of Siena and the vineyards that surround you. The second climb ends and through vineyards and woods you will arrive at the village of San Felice , a Chianti Classico winery , where you can observe a spectacular panorama and smell the scents of the harvest and of the new wine. Here there will be refreshments, you will be at 24,500 km.

Ecomaratona del Chianti : discovering the Toscan countryside

03 May, 2012 (Thu)

§staticmap(2269,5,450,250)Hello, on October 21th 2012, you’ll be organizing the Ecomaratona del Chianti, the Chianti Trail 18km and Ecopasseggiata 10 km . Can you tell us where it is located? The race is located in and around an old little village, Castelnuovo Berardenga, close to Siena in the hearth of Tuscany. How old is the race and why was it created in the first place? The Ecomaratona del Chianti is celebrating its 6th year whereas for the Chianti Trail we’re at 5th edition. We started out with the longest distance but we wanted to give everyone the chance to participate in this wonderful event so we created the Chianti Trail. The idea behind the race is to combine the famous culture of Tuscany with running and allow the participants to absorb this both before, during and after the race. Credit : Ecomaratona del ChiantiWhat kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? It’s a simple trail in the sense that no specific requirements are needed and can be performed wearing normal running shoes. Everything is off-road on straightforward trails. The focus is to give the participant an impression of the Tuscany scenery while running on the soft hills passing vineyards, olives and the characteristic cypresses. Every now and then you’ll pass beautiful castles and small villages created more than 500 years ago. The record of the race is 2h 53’ which reflects the perfect compromise between challenging trail, a beautiful scenery and a race for everyone. How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? On October 21th there will be more than 2,800 participants. The Ecomaratona will attract about 600, the Chianti Trail 900, and for the Ecopasseggiata 10km we expect more than 1,300 participants on that day! We are the most famous and largest Ecomaratona in Italy. At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? The weather is usually between 10-20 degrees Celsius; perfect for running! Credit : Ecomaratona del ChiantiHave you planned festivities around the marathon? We organize a free and incredible rich Pasta Party in true Tuscan style both on the Saturday before the race and Sunday immediately after the race. On the Saturday we organize free tourist visits to the old castle and the canteen of the village. The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Castelnuovo Berardenga – Siena before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? To recover from the race we recommend trying out our famous cuisine with pasta and Fiorentina steak, our world-class wines, and then simply to find a nice place in the sun, relax and have a look at the beautiful scenery. That’s all!! In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Ecomaratona del Chianti? A wonderful place, delicious meals, famous wines, our history and an incredibly well-organized event will give you the opportunity to spend a fantastic weekend in Italy and to run in a fantastic place. Everyone receives a stunning Finisher Medal, a technical t-shirt and a good bottle of wine! Interview with Christian Tozzi.
