Inaugural Everywon East Bay 1/2 Marathon / 5K to Benefit Multiple Local Charities

27 Apr, 2016 (Wed)

The groundbreaking idea is to inspire 100% of participants to run or walk on behalf of their choice of local charities EverywonAfter nearly two years of planning, the inaugural Everywon East Bay 1/2 Marathon/5K on July 24 is looking to establish a new paradigm in endurance sports events. With a guiding philosophy of “improvement through movement,” the groundbreaking idea is to inspire 100% of participants to run or walk on behalf of their choice of local charities, some with national and international reach. Everywon is a community fundraising platform that supports up to 21 pre-selected local causes in each city across seven vital social purpose categories – - Animals, Arts, Community, Education, Environment, Health and Youth. According to Tom Huston, founder of Everywon, “There is no limit to what can be accomplished through a team effort. We are working closely with each of the nonprofits to form teams of existing and new supporters to use our Everywon events as a powerful and empowering fundraising force, in addition to seeking Company-led fundraising teams with employees in the communities we are trying to help. We believe that when everyone contributes, everyone wins.” Everywon East Bay is the first of two events planned for 2016. Everywon East Bay will run between Berkeley and Oakland, highlighting the best of both communities. Reasonable entry fees and modest fundraising goals make the event accessible to most participants. “With our unique business model, we work with nonprofits to help them find sponsors to underwrite all or part of participants’ entry fees,” said Huston. The second event will take place in San Diego in December. Everywon’s plans call for rapid expansion into urban markets with strong employer bases that are not overly saturated with endurance sports events. “We see these events as a great way to celebrate civic pride and showcase local nonprofits,” said Tom. Parlaying his experience as a competitive athlete and sports marketing professional (UEFA Champions League, Champions Hockey League, America’s Cup), Huston sees the team approach as integral to the success of Everywon. To that end, he has rallied the support of Marie Patrick (co-founder of the L.A. Marathon) and Bob Babbitt, longtime champion of endurance sports. “Everywon is a powerful and much needed event idea,” said Babbitt. “We have seen that much has been accomplished when even a small percentage of participants run for charity. If 100% of participants dedicate their efforts to good causes, there is no limit to what can be accomplished.” Online registration for Everywon East Bay opens on March 24 at Everywon.org.
