FCC Behavioral Health’s Women and Children’s CSTAR (Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation) Program in Cape Girardeau MO provides substance use disorders care to women in a gender responsive manner. Priority is offered to women with substance use disorders who are pregnant, post-partum, or have children in their custody. The program allows women to begin their treatment during pregnancy, deliver their babies while they are in treatment, and return to the program without disruption.  Mothers are able to bring their children to treatment where they can focus on recovery in a safe, supportive, stable environment. The Cape Girardeau Program houses 32 women at any time, and allow for at least a 3 month stay, with potential extensions for long-term care.

Last year, we were able to buy a large playground for the children who come to the site! The old one was taken down, and during that process, we found out that it was not even a safe playground. Since the 5K, we have been able to have a safe playground for the children with 2 slides. The children and parents have been extremely grateful!  This year, the proceeds will be going towards some indoor equipment for wellness, as well as some additional comfort seating for the women (per their request for additional rocking chairs and seating in the building). In recovery, the mind and the body both have to heal, and it is important that the women continue to exercise their bodies while their minds are learning in treatment.
