Firecracker Chase

Hayden’s Hope and the Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope are excited to announce the resurrection of the Firecracker Chase for 2020! This is a classic road race that has been held on and off for several decades in the beautiful town of Fayetteville, TN. The last Chase took place in 2018, and we are looking forward to bringing this fun little event back to Lincoln County on June 27, 2020! 

New Course!  If you've run this event in the past decade, you are accustomed to starting and ending at the Fayetteville Recreation Center, but this year, we will start and end the race in Fayetteville's lovely town square near the iconic Lincoln Theatre.   Please plan on lingering and enjoying lunch at one of the many options Fayetteville has to offer, stroll around and shop for antiques as you stretch out your legs after your run, or just sit in the shade on our courthouse lawn and do some people watching. Our little town has something to offer just about everyone, and we invite you and your supporters to spend part of your day taking it in. 

Cupless for 2020!  In an effort to reduce our impact on the environment and our volunteers, we are going cupless in 2020 so, plan accordingly y’all! We will provide some sort of water vessel for you to carry in your hand or maybe it will clip to you, but we don’t yet know exactly what they will be so, if this will derail you on race day, go ahead and start training with your own hydration system of choice now. We will make every effort to have PLENTY of water and sports drink coolers available at every aid station for quick cup refills.

Weather  If the June 27th date doesn’t already give it away, THIS IS A TRADITIONALLY HOT EVENT, and we ain’t just talkin’ the swag! Please be aware of this so you can train and plan accordingly. We’ll help ya if you fall out, but we’d rather see you cross the finish line healthy and happy!

Cutoff  This event will have a generous 3 hour cutoff for any distance, which should allow walkers, runners, joggers, and woggers! All races (5K, 10K, 10.2Mile) will start together at 7AM and participants will have 3 hours to complete their respective event.

This breaks down to the following paces:
10.2Miles - 17:38 pace / 3.4 MPH
10K - 28:58 pace / 2.07 MPH
5K - 57:56 pace / 1.04 MPH

Awards Ceremony:
5K - 8:00 AM
10K - 9:00 AM
10.2M - 9:30 AM
Awards will be given as follows: (all times/awards will be based on chip time)
5K:  Top 3 Males, Top 3 Females; 1st, 2nd, 3rd for all age groups (in 5 year divisions)
10K:  Top 3 Males, Top 3 Females; 1st, 2nd, 3rd for all age groups (in 5 year divisions)
10.2M:  Top 3 Males from Fayetteville, TN; Top 3 Females from Fayetteville, TN; Top 3 Males, Top 3 Females; 1st, 2nd, 3rd for all age groups (in 5 year divisions)

SWAG!  Each runner (any distance) THAT IS REGISTERED BY JUNE 12th  will receive a t-shirt. If you miss that date, there will be no extra shirts unless we happen to have no-shows. All runners completing the 10.2 mile course will receive those classic Firecracker medals that you all love! Additionally, for everyone registered by June 12th, you have the option to take a $5 discount on your registration instead of a t-shirt (instead of a size, select -$5 in the t-shirt dropdown). And, let me say it again for those in the back: register by June 12th if you live for the free T! We’re not trying to have extra boxes of shirts to store so, no extras will be ordered for late registrations. You WILL, however, get a biscuit, and isn’t that just as good? Welcome to Fayetteville, where biscuits are swag. 

Aid Stations  There will be 7 aid stations on the course. Each aid station will have water and sports drink available, and there will be 2 mid-course aid stations that will also have chilled fruit…and maybe some pickle juice shots.  

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to insurance requirements, this race is NOT open to strollers, baby joggers, or pets. Yes, beast mom that runs all her miles pushing her triplets, this means you. Or you, bada$$ mom and dad team that take turns pushing the stroller - y'all need to go on and get a sitter for this one! Regale us with your show of speed WITHOUT pushing an additional 40 lbs in front of you up hills. And you, person that LOVES THEIR DOG MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD AND TAKES THEM EVERYWHERE! Leave Fido (or Garfield or Ferret Fawcett or whoever) at home for this event. Please don't think we will just turn our heads on race day and let you on the course anyway; it will not go down like that. You will be asked to stay off the course if you have any type of stroller or a pet and you will not be getting your money back.  Please don't make it awkward. We are two very small non-profits and cannot risk a lawsuit if some other person trips over your stroller or your pup. We do not like being the fun police so, call your insurance companies to complain if you feel strongly about these things. :) 

Proceeds from this race will benefit Hayden’s Hope and the Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope, which are both 501(c)3 organizations headquartered in Lincoln County, TN. Because of this a portion of your registration will be tax deductible.
