Due to COVID-19, the POCO Festival has officially been cancelled and we cannot gather for Floyd’s 5K. In order to continue the tradition we will be holding a virtual 5k. This year’s proceeds will be split between the Floyd Parness Scholarship Fund and The Food Pantry of North Branford. It was a tradition for the athletes to bring canned goods to the end of the season banquets when Floyd was the coach. These would then get donated to the Food Pantry of North Branford. As businesses have shut down and jobs have been lost, more people than ever are relying on the food bank to help make ends meet. Please help us keep their shelves stocked.
Sunday, August 2nd through August 9th – complete your run
Tuesday, August 11th – deadline to report your time back to us
TBD – shirt distribution and awards
The original PoCo Fest 5K was created by Floyd Parness in 2009. Coach Floyd was a beloved and respected coach in North Branford for over three decades. These events are a testimony to Floyd and the lasting effect he had on kids and adults alike. The committee dedicates many hours to put this together and is led by his three children Jennifer, Todd and Dave.
Each May, two North Branford seniors will receive scholarships. These students have run indoor track, outdoor track and/or cross country, the sports in which Floyd coached. They exhibit traits which Floyd felt so strongly about including heart, dedication and perseverance.
Thank you to everyone for your anticipated participation. We are amazed every year by the amount of amazing volunteers and participants that come out to support this race.
We will see you in person on the course next year!
If you would like to donate directly to the scholarship fund, please make checks payable to the “Floyd Parness Scholarship Fund.” Checks are to be mailed to: 88 Pine Street, Wallingford CT 06492. Your support is appreciated!
