About the event

This is a race to bring awareness to the atrocities Native American children faced while being forced to attend boarding schools in the US and Canada. The finish is at the site of an old military fort, Fort Spokane, which at one time was converted into a boarding school.

The half marathon course begins on the Wellpinit-Westend highway. After some amazing river views you run through the community of Westend. After 5 miles the runners are off of the pavement and onto a dirt road with more views of the Spokane River. From there runners will then reach Two Rivers and run across a bridge spanning the Spokane River and run up to Fort Spokane and finish.

There will be Native American speakers afterwards to speak to the history of boarding schools and this location.
