Geeks in Sneaks Charity 5K Run/Walk

We are currently planning our third annual Geeks in Sneaks 5K run/walk to be held on April 30th, 2016 at Saginaw Valley State University.  The day will include a silent auction, childrens' crafts, and a chemistry demonstration. Registration/check-in begins at 8:30 am and the race begins at 9:30 am. Registration is $25, students are $15, and children 12 and under are free. Registering before April 7th includes a t-shirt, but shirts will need to be ordered at $15 a piece for children 12 and under. This year funds raised will be split between Carrollton Elementary School and scholarships for SMEKplus summer camps

            Over 70% of Carrollton Elementary School students are living beneath the poverty line. This inhibits students from attending field trips, acquiring required school supplies, and participating in other opportunities associated with elementary school. We gather backpacks and school supplies to donate along with our monetary donation. With past donations, they have also purchased supplies for the children to complete science project posters, which was a new experience for the children. Through your donation, children were able to experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields.

            The Science and Mathematics Extravaganza for Kids (SMEKplus) summer camps are for students in grades 2-8. These three-day camps provide students with hands-on experience in science activities such as robotics, studying organisms, and designing cardboard boats. Both camps aim to encourage students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The cost for each student is $135. Our aim is to raise funds to provide scholarships for students with financial need.
