Are you up for an amazing celebration of girl power? The Girls on the Run 5K Run/Walk is the culminating celebration for over 800 3rd through 8th grade girls who have completed the 10-week Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs. In the 10 weeks leading up to the 5k, these girls train with a team of close friends to empower their inner SuperSHEroes and complete the GOTR 5k Run/Walk.
Defeat the Girl Box
Our inner Superheroes constantly battle the Girl Box. Yeah, the GIRL BOX. Walk down the doll aisle in any store, and you’ll see rows and rows of identical boxes. Lots and lots of perfect little boxes. Society pressures all women to fit into its version of these perfect little boxes: the Girl Box. Inside it, we’re trying to be who we’re told we’re supposed to be (you know—skinny, pretty, perfectly dressed, etc . . .), instead of being our truly awesome, amazing, powerful, unique selves. Isn’t it time you broke out of your Girl Box?
Check your Girl Box at the registration desk, and join us for the Girls on the Run 5K Run/Walk! It’s a 5K like no other—capes, giggles, smiles, tutus, crowns, girl power stripes, colorful hairdos, cheers, encouragement, and girl power abound! All women and girls are free to be themselves (aka AMAZING) and complete the 5K at their own pace and with their own unique style.
Our 5th annual GOTR 5K Run/Walk is open to female walkers and runners of all shapes, sizes, and abilities . . . and just one male.
*Don’t worry. It’s just one guy. They’ve cheered us on for 5 years, so we thought we’d give them one chance to participate . . . but just one chance.
Please do not register your Girls on the Run participant! She is already registered for this event.
The course is a certified loop course beginning and ending at the Walsh University running track, with a portion on the Hoover Trail. In case of flooding, a certified out-and-back course will be used.
Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, we teach life skills through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement. The 20-lesson curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run® coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.
Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society, while also working together as a true team to complete the Girls on the Run 5K Run/Walk at their own pace.

Please note that ONLY the girls who have completed the Girls on the Run program and 5K Run/Walk this season will receive the GOTR medals that are handed out at the finish line. These medals signify completion of our 10-week program.
