About the event

In tribute to the Northern European Spring Classics join us for the 14th Annual Hell of Hunterdon (OK, we had an involuntary 2-year COVID hiatus), a Belgian themed ride that winds its way through scenic farmland and country towns in Hunterdon, Mercer & Somerset Counties, NJ.

Due to Hurricane Ida, we still have some course modifications in 2024; unfortunately, 2 of the gravel sectors are still inaccessible due to closed bridges

We are offering 3 Official Course Lengths in 2024

The Long Course is the mostly traditional 81-mile course with 12 unpaved sectors (18% of the course).   Total elevation gain is ca 5900 feet (according to RideWithGPS).   This Course has 2 Aid Stations. The Medium Course is 55 Miles long with 7 unpaved sectors (13% of the course).  Total elevation gain is ca 4000 feet (according to RideWithGPS).  This course has 1 Aid Station. The Short Course is 31 miles long with 3 unpaved sectors (10% of the course).  Total elevation gain is ca 2000 feet (according to RideWithGPS).  This course doesn't have any Aid Stations. All Courses can be shortened by 5 miles, which also removes ca 500' of elevation gain, by taking the posted short cut.

Following the ride, please join us for the festivities at the Elks Lodge in Blawenburg, NJ, which will include hot food, cold drinks, and door prizes.

Please note, that for 2024:

All riders will start “At-Will” at a time of their choice between 7:30-9:00AM.We are not marking the course, but will provide GPS Files, Complimentary Access to the Ride With GPS App, and detailed Cue Sheets

It will still be a great ride on an amazing couse with terrific food and drink after the ride. We intend these changes to be temporary, and plan to return to our regular features ASAP.

The routes are perfectly suitable for standard Road Bikes with Road Tires; tires wider than 23mm are highly suggested.  Cyclocross/Gravel bikes are welcome, but certainly not required, as most of the ride is on paved roads; however, the ride is certainly more comfortable if you go with wider tires.  The courses (and lengths) are subject to change, pending road construction, etc.
