About the event
The race begins and ends at KapiolaniPark, and follows the same route as the 2008 race. Racers head out of the park away from Diamond Head and turn right on Monsarrat around the park. Racers then turn right onto Paki Avenue which threads back around Kapiolani Park. As the course nears Diamond Head, there are some short, uphill grades and beautiful views of the ocean. The route circles Diamond Head crater to the left on Diamond Head Road (aid station at Triangle Park), then turns right onto 18th Avenue.
The course then turns right onto Kilauea Avenue, passing through residential and commercial areas of Kahala then merges onto Kalanianaole Highway (aid station at the gas station). Racers turn around about 800 meters past Wailupe Beach Parkand doubles back along Kalanianaole Highway (aid station at Wailupe Beach Park). The course turns left onto Kealaolu Avenue (aka 'Golf Course Road') along the Waialae Country Club. The route then turns right onto Kahala Avenue, merges into Diamond Head Road, and circles back around Diamond Head crater (aid station at Triangle Park).
As the last mile of the course curves around Diamond Head toward the finish in Waikiki, the route passes Cliffs, a popular surfing spot, and the Diamond Head Lighthouse. At the tip of Kapiolani Park, runners fork onto Kalakaua Avenue. The last stretch of the race runs along the park past the Waikiki Aquarium to the Finish Line near the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
