Usually held annually in Memorial Park in October, HSU’s Brian Faglie Memorial Bark in the Park event is going virtual, given the current circumstances. The event may look a little different this year, but its spirit remains the same: To bring people together in a fun atmosphere to help HSU rescue, encourage adoption and educate the public on responsible pet ownership.
As part of the event this year, HSU proudly brings you the Brian Faglie Memorial Virtual 5K, Presented by Walmart. Whether you run on a treadmill, jog around the neighborhood or walk around Memorial Park while social distancing, this virtual 5k is an ideal way to stay connected to Uvalde – and its furry friends – while we can’t be together.
How are we going to do this? Glad you (kinda) asked! Like a well-trained pup, we have some new tricks! When you sign up for the virtual 5k, the following will happen:
You’ll receive a swag bag with a shirt, commemorative bib, and a thank you “note” from one of our animals – delivered or shipped in mid-October. On race day, you’ll run a 5k wherever you wish, using your preferred run app to record your run. You’ll send your results from that app via screen shot or directly to [email protected].Optional: Take a picture of yourself running, post it to social media and use the hashtag #UvaldeDogsIt
That’s it! Not a ruff process at all! We’ll tally the results from there. For runners who place in the top three, you’ll get a medal AND an additional prize from one of our sponsors!
Winners will be announced on Monday, October 26, two days after the race. Prizes and medals will be delivered or shipped to the winner, depending on location.
Not a runner? You can use this very site to donate to HSU! (Donate button at the top of this page)
