Jerry Huskey Memorial 5K from Gatlinburg Police Headquarters at 1230 East Parkway. This race is a memorial race honoring Officer Jerry Dean Huskey who was killed in the line of duty in Gatlinburg on June 14, 1975. Gatlinburg Community Police Programs (G.C.O.P.P.) is hosting this event and all funds received will benefit the Jerry Dean Huskey Memorial Scholarship Program offering a $500 dollar scholarship to Gatlinburg Pittman High School Students beginning with the class of 2016. Funds raised will also benefit G.C.O.P.P. which is a non-profit organization ran by the Gatlinburg Police Department. G.C.O.P.P. conducts activities for the children and citizens of Gatlinburg, the local community, as well as visitors to this area. They conduct several activities each year to promote good will between the community and police officers. There is an annual Easter egg hunt with free lunch provided, Christmas dinner and gifts provided for the needy in the community, and an annual summer camp for kids. G.C.O.P.P. also provides emergency assistance to stranded visitors, or to citizens and area families in need.
